Business & Social Studies

Business Studies

Business Studies is an exciting course that has a focus on real life businesses, ranging from small enterprises to large multinationals companies. Students are encouraged to investigate and analyse business opportunities and issues, then draw upon their knowledge and understand to make a well-balanced and structured argument.

Key terms and definitions are the most powerful pieces of knowledge. Having an excellent level of knowledge and understanding will give the students confidence to focus on the case studies and then apply the knowledge to the business context.

Throughout the course exam technique is a core skill in which the students need to learn and practise. This will then ensure the students have time to get the exam technique right.

Social Sciences

Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and how it dictates and influences our behaviour, from communication and memory to thought and emotion. Psychology has become an increasingly popular subject in today’s society and at FP2.

Business Studies - Key Stage 4

  • Students are introduced to business in Themes 1 and 2 through building knowledge of core business concepts and applying them to business contexts to develop a broad understanding of how businesses work.
  • Breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding, with applications to a wider range of contexts and more complex business information, are developed in Themes 3 and 4, requiring students to take a more strategic view of business opportunities and issues.

Students are encouraged to use an enquiring, critical and thoughtful approach to the study of business, to understand that business behaviour can be studied from a range of perspectives and to challenge assumptions

Social Sciences - A Level

By studying A Level Psychology, student becomes more aware of others around them. I hope to bring awareness, knowledge, understanding and tolerance so students become all rounded global citizens.  By the end of the course students will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of psychological concepts, theories, research studies, research methods and ethical issues within Psychology. They will be able apply psychological knowledge and understanding in a range of contexts and be able to analyse, interpret and evaluate psychological concepts, theories, research studies and research methods. Knowledge and understanding of research methods, practical research skills and mathematical skills is a vital part of the Psychology curriculum and students will be given opportunity to design and carry out their own research as well as practice analysis and interpreting data.
Psychology has various links to other subject areas at FP2.

The study of A level sociology focuses on contemporary society. Studying sociology must foster the development of critical and reflective thinking with a respect for social diversity. It must provide an awareness of the importance of social structure and social action in explaining social issues. Students must be encouraged to develop their own sociological awareness through active engagement with the contemporary social world.
Sociology students study AQA A Level Sociology offering a key focus on society in the UK today and looking back to how society has arrived at its current position and suggesting how it may continue to evolve. The A Level has strong links to British values and SMSC as it teaches traditional British values as a core element of the course and students actively learn about democracy, individual liberty, rule of law and mutual respect within the topics studied.
